New Year

Sorry for lack of posts lately. I have myself a job in Port Douglas and that has taken most of my time. Ill be working tonight which is New Year's Eve. But I have been told ill be finishing by 23:30 so that gives me enough time to walk to the beach and watch the fire works.
I wish you all a great year. This year is going to be very different for me. I just know it.
See you all in 2013.

First day at work

Today is my first day of work at Bel Cibo restaurant in Port Douglas. First day after being unemployed for 46 days. Now all my friends and family around me know what kind of a workaholic I am and I have found it very difficult not to work over the past month but this is a whole new experience.
This morning I woke up and was craving a healthy breakfast so prepared myself the following. I hope you all have a great Boxing Day and do lots of shopping.

Merry Christmas

Hi everyone
Merry Christmas to you all. I hope you have a joyous day with your loved ones.
I spent this beautiful day in Mossman Gorge. We walked around the national park and dipped our toes in creeks and waterholes. A very different Christmas to what I'm normally used to as there was no Christmas dinner only a BBQ followed by a walk on the beach.
Have a wonderful day all.

Port Douglas

Port Douglas is a small town but has everything you need. Beautiful restaurants and cafe's, sandy beaches, friendly people and its very clean.
From all the cities, towns and villages we have travelled through so far Port Douglas is by far the most beautiful. It doesn't compare to Sydney but Sydney is a large city with a population of 4.6 million where the population in Port Douglas is only 4.7 thousand. I could see myself living here once retired. I like the beautiful town houses that line the streets and lack of big brands and franchises make this town just a little more special.
On our first night here Ramtin fancied KFC. After walking through the high street (there's only one street and you can walk the length in 15 minutes) we realised such fast food restaurants do not exist here. I was very pleased to hear that as it meant eating more healthily and supporting local businesses.
There's a market each Sunday that sells everything made in Port Douglas, you are not permitted to have a stall if your products are not made in this town. I like the intimacy of this little town. We will be here for at least another two weeks as all three of us have managed to find work in local restaurants. I start work on Boxing Day and will let you all know how it goes.
Until then enjoy some photos of beautiful Port Douglas.

Great Barrier Reef

Yestday was all about diving and snorkelling. Exactly 6 hours of it. All three of us booked a tour to spend the day on the Great Barrier Reef. The boat was pleasant, the food was delicious and the fishes were wonderful. I had never seen so many different colour fishes and its great feeling to dive into another world. I'd say its a different planet. While you are down under all you hear is yourself breathing and if you stop for couple of seconds the silence and calmness of under water is surreal. It's a sound you do not come across in the world above water. The sound of nothing.
The whole experience cost us $157.50, this included all the dive and snorkelling equipment, transfers, breakfast lunch and nibbles and a couple of talks from marine specialist on the boat. All in all it was a very good day.
Here are some photos from the day.

Fun photos on the road trip

Today we have done nothing but look for work. We called almost every farm and factory in Queensland area, thanks to yellow pages.
But nothing... We have found nothing. We have learnt a lot about farm work in Australia though. So when you are in Europe they advertise jobs in Australia as if its all guaranteed once you step off the plane. Unfortunately they neglect to say that there are many agencies who are money hungry and waiting for their chance to rub you off of what ever you have left in your pocket. But I won't bore you with any of the details. If you want to do some work make sure you know exactly where you will be staying and how much they pay/charge.
Anyway enough of the boring stuff please see some funny photos I've captured along the way.

Sunday funday

Today. Sunday.
It was all about making sure every single piece of clothing in our backpack is washed and dried. We then hit the supermarket to buy some burgers for BBQ. The afternoon was spent relaxing on a bench reading a book whilst the boys got themselves drunk.
It's been a very calm day with not much excitement but exactly what we needed after a week on the road.
The pics below will show my new flip flops, the boys and I doing laundry, boys making lunch, a drive thru to buy alcohol (first time I'd seen this) and finally playing Didgeridoo an Australian wind instrument. Not going to lie it didn't sound good but then again it was the ,first time I had blown into a tree branch.

RIP my lovely flip flops

The past two days haven't been great for me. On Friday I lost an earring, I removed them just before I jumped in the little crystal creek. I placed them in my camera carrier case but when I went back to wear them again only one was there. Sad times. It was gold and my mother gave it to me to wear but she did say "please don't worry and stress yourself if you lose it", so I took her advice and after spending 5 minutes looking for it I called it quits and told the guys to move on. Now this is not the end of it. On Saturday I stupidly listened to the boys and jumped over a wooden fence when it had clearly stated that it is forbidden to do so. During the jump I placed my hand on top of the fence and due to hot temperatures burned my hand, as I pulled my hand away I hit my funny bone on my elbow against it and ended up with an ugly bruise. This stopped me from having a comfortable sleep last night. Still not finished yet... The one thing that upset me the most was losing my flip flops. As we left Murray falls and sat in the car I stupidly removed my flip flops and moved my feet in the car, then forgot to bring the flip flops in and closed the door. Davy didn't realise and drove off. I only notice when we had arrived in Cairns which was nearly 200 kilometres away and had nothing to wear as I stepped out of the car. I know they are only flip flops but I had them custom made from Havaianas and I've had them for over two years with my initial on them. I will purchase a cheap version for now until I get back to London and the first thing ill do is hit Selfridges and have one made just like the old ones.
