Port Douglas

Port Douglas is a small town but has everything you need. Beautiful restaurants and cafe's, sandy beaches, friendly people and its very clean.
From all the cities, towns and villages we have travelled through so far Port Douglas is by far the most beautiful. It doesn't compare to Sydney but Sydney is a large city with a population of 4.6 million where the population in Port Douglas is only 4.7 thousand. I could see myself living here once retired. I like the beautiful town houses that line the streets and lack of big brands and franchises make this town just a little more special.
On our first night here Ramtin fancied KFC. After walking through the high street (there's only one street and you can walk the length in 15 minutes) we realised such fast food restaurants do not exist here. I was very pleased to hear that as it meant eating more healthily and supporting local businesses.
There's a market each Sunday that sells everything made in Port Douglas, you are not permitted to have a stall if your products are not made in this town. I like the intimacy of this little town. We will be here for at least another two weeks as all three of us have managed to find work in local restaurants. I start work on Boxing Day and will let you all know how it goes.
Until then enjoy some photos of beautiful Port Douglas.
